ZD DESIGN AND PRINT
In this project I worked with 2 of my close friends to help start up their 3D design and print company. They had already created a name, logo and colour palette but needed another designer to help with the brand identity. It ended up being a challenging project as I worked on helping refine a USP for the brand by making a lovable mascot as well as doing merchandise designs, promotional posters and created an animation to be used as marketing material or as a loading gif.
Mascot Design

Model #1. Model should only be the fan of the printer as there are too many parts with gaps, holes and wires to create a meaningfull and memorable character.
Model #2. No arms bus rather 2 tentacle legs to resemble the wires and the filament pen on top of his head. 3 different mouths
1. Most realistic
2. The cover off (meaning it's easier to recognise)
3. Makes it a clear mouth but has no real corrolation to the printer parts.
Legs:
If the printer mascot has only 2 legs it should be human legs to be more relatable, if more are added then wire legs would be better as it is more realistic to what the mascot actually is. While octopus legs are cool and resemble what the wires look like on the mascot it doesn not relate back to the brand image and could confuse the audience as to what the mascot actually is.

Mascot Animation
This was an animation I made to be used for any loading screens as well as a gif to be posted as promotional material on social medias. I used Fresco Animation for the first time with this and self taught myself through experimenting with the functions on the app, On the left is a timelapse of everything I did including the experimenting as well as the original drawing of the mascot.

The timelapse unfortunatly doesn't capture the mascot moving along the path for some reason however you can still see how I used the use of a line to determine where the mascot will go, as well as putting a dot down for every frame as to where the tip of the pen is. I used just the logo and erased every section leading up to the whole image. At the end the mascot does a small wink and a glimmer bounces off the top to show some more character as well as presenting the brand as clean and quality driven.
Merchandise Design
For the merchandise design I intended to create 3D printing jokes on t shirts as the other designer in the group had already made the staff/logo t shirts. This was done in an attempt to gain more customers as anyone in the 3D printing community would understand the jokes and feel like they're part of that community more. All the designs also included a line that should gain sales on the website, not only the customer but whoever sees someone with the t-shirt on as they all refer to how you should use ZD Design for your printing needs.
The first design is an innuendo design referring to where the filament of the mascot is coming out of, this is meant to target the younger audience (teens) who may not have a printer of their own but want to 3d print models meaning they will be intrigued by the custom order section where they can ask for a specific print.
The second design refers to an issue many 3D printers have where the filament will curl up and go everywhere as something is uneven or there's an underlying issue. The design targets those with printers who understand the struggle and may keep having the spaghetti issue so seek ZD to print it for them, so the design is more mature and stylish.
The final design is a mix of both the previous styles as those in the 3D printing community who print for fun make a lot of prints that mention internet memes or are "jokey". The man on the front refers to a viral internet gif of a man profusely sweating. This is targeted towards them as they will understand where the image is from and seek humour in the design.

Promotional Posters
These are 2 promotional posters that I made to be put up in shops windows, creative gallerys and put on social media or advertisements. They are already going up in a new creative studio in Bristol called 395 Studios which is for up and coming brands, buisnesses and artists. The posters are meant to show off what the brand represents and produces quickly to someone passing by. The striking orange should capture the eyeof anyone and a large QR code is at the top to direct anyone towards the website. I created a second poster (left) to show off recent work. This was made before a lot of products were being sold but I chose the simple post it note holder the CAD on our group made as it is simple yet very practical but still quite cheap so targets a wider range of customers.
Profit Spreadsheet

On the left is a spreadhseet on what stock the buisness has. At the top it notes what type of material it is in orange (PLA). Then the grid is split into Colour, ASIN, grams of filament left for Z (Zak) and D (Dan) as well as the cost per kg. Notice that the amount of filament left changes the box colour, red representing low, orange and yellow being a standard amount and green being a large amount. All the filament is bought through amazon as it is cheaper for the buisness to set up an account and get a discount by being an amazon buisness. The ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) is to identify the product quicker and find it easier. The 2 smaller photos of the stock chart are further screenshots of other materials to show off more of the document, PLA Matte and ABS has not been screen shotted as there is little stock and wouldn't show anymore development.

Underneath is the profit margins document which oragnises all the products sold and how much they should all go for. Each product has a number to be identified by as well as a colour depending on whether it is a physical product, digital file or merchandise. To calculate the margins I used a site called Omni Calculator which takes the weight, length, diameter, material type and price on top of how long it takes to print to produce an accurate estimate as to how much a product should go for. I changed the markup price depending on how cheap the product is to produce and what online competitor prices look like. For exmaple the bookshelf sign (06) only costs 81p to make however to make the best profit I raised the price to just under £4.00 as that is the most common mean price for small bookshelf signs.

For this group project I found my group and I communicated extremely well and I found it easy to work with and around eachother. I enjoyed creating the mascot and the merchandise the most as I found I had the most creative freedom. The mascot animation was challenging yet exciting as I am still learning the basics of animation and finding softwares that work for me. The merchandise was also a favourite of mine as I liked how I incorporated the brands image into each design and how they all had a different specific audience. I found writing out the prodit margins and the stock the least enjoyable as it was highly needed however mathematics is not one of my strong skills and it felt very cumbersome. The next project I do I would like to show off my already advanced skills in design more and spend less time researching, writing and planning as well as doing something similar to my mascot designs as that is what I enjoyed doing the most.
